Professor Boris Groys was awarded Doctor of Literature Honoris Causa by Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ for his exceptional contribution to art history in 2017, the centenary of the Russian Revolution.Ìý

 

He has significantly changed modern and contemporary art-historical practice.Ìý Following the fall of Communism in 1989, The Total Art of Stalinism, (English, 1992), pioneered the rethinking of Western Cold War narratives.Ìý Groys subsequently became the voice of ‘Moscow Conceptualism’, which he had baptised as a participant and critic from inside the USSR.

Currently a Global Distinguished Professor of Russian and Slavic Studies at New York University, Groys maintains strong links with European institutions.Ìý The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ welcomed him as Visiting Professor in 2006, and as Visiting Mellon Professor in Spring 2011.Ìý His impact on research is revealed in our scholarship, the outputs of the (CCRAC) and The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s profile in Russia.
