Today marks one hundred years since parliament passed the act that would allow all men and the first women to vote. To mark this important date, Â鶹ÊÓƵ is proudly celebrating the illustrator-artist Catherine Â鶹ÊÓƵ, the sister of our founder Samuel Â鶹ÊÓƵ, who was a prominent member of the Suffrage Atelier formed in 1907. As part of this group of artists, Catherine used her art to join the propaganda war and to promote the Votes for Women campaign. Pro-Suffrage propaganda played a crucial role in the protracted battle for female voting rights: posters and postcards were relied upon to enlist support for rallies and events and to counteract the negative portrayals of suffragettes being disseminated by the media.
